What you say is basically true-- this is why I recommended finding a local
nerd to do the install.
It is not true that you should necessarily have needed to edit your
registry-- which adds a severe level of complexity that I wouldn't wish on
anyone for any reason. Whoever advised editing the registry probably didn't
know some basic and simpler techniques that should also have worked.
The machine that has all its IRQs allocated is always the problem. In this
situation, it is sometimes necessary to sacrifice some component-- maybe a
sound card -- they can use up to 3 IRQs -- Is sound that important??? -- Not
in my machine. Not compared to a program that puts bread on the table.
As far as the parallel port cable solution is concerned-- it is definitely
easier to set up but the speed comparison would rival a turtle vs. a lear
jet. Ok for small files, but a TradeStation back-up might take as long as
a Ken Starr investigation.
My solution: Hire the Nerd...
