[EquisMetaStock Group] Re: Metastock vs. Amibroker -help needed

I initially used MS but eventually switched over to AB because of its
increased functionality (and also increased complexity). AB has a
long and fairly steep learning curve - It helped that I had used MS
first and had gotten used to the subject of technical analysis.

AB is sort of superset of MS with many of the indicators having very
similar syntax.

An example of the increased complexity in AB is the 'for' statement to
control program execution ('for' is not present in MS). The 'for'
statement has:
'for' to start loop with initial value, final value, step
'{' to designate the start of a block of statements to execute
'break' to jump out of the loop (or case) ahead of final value
'switch(n) & case n:' used with 'break' to handle a variety of
outcomes differently.
'continue' - continue inside the for loop (usually inside an if stmt')

I've used AB for 4 years now and don't ever consider looking for other
TA software or going back to MS. I monitor this forum because I
belong to a mixed group of traders that use many types of TA software
and this kind of keeps me up on things going on in MS.

An excellent book on technical trading is "Quantitative Trading
Systems" by Dr. Howard Bandy. It has many examples of technical
trading systems already coded with backtesting and commentary on how
well they work. It uses several TA software packages including AB.
