more info: this unwanted read only checked box appears in grey (usually it happen when only a part of the files in the folder is read only) even if i verified for every file folder it was turned off (and it results off, in properties too)
At least I tried to creta new folder, moved files inside and renamed it for everything about data and metastock program, the problem is still there. :(((

This was the first thing i thought about even if I didn.t copy datas from a cd, but I see something weird on my pc (xp sp2), all folders (not only the metastock) appears with the read only box checked and if I uncheck this option and apply it, when I go on properties it appears turned on again. Actually I think it is a windows bug, but how can i know if the folder is really read only or it's just a false appearance? And considering I already appllied the turning off procedure what else can i do?

I think you may have copied the date from a CD. In that case all your files/folders would be marked as read only.
What you could do is to right click on the mail folder, and uncheck the read only box. A window should come up asking you to apply this option to the main folder or all the subfolders. Select the option which allows you to apply it to all the subfolders.
This should solve your problem.

Sorry, maybe you lost the very first msg, I reported it below, as you can see the error msg is completely different.
Thank you anyway for your try.
"Hi, I changed my pc so I reinstalled metastock, obviously I saved my stock datas, but after the new installation often when I open an old charts I get the message "the folder containing this smartchart's data no longer exists or is not accessible"
I tried many things as deleting the old smartchart with no result.
Does someone know how to fix this?
I think it has something to mess with the charts in che charts folder, cause I tried to aplly the delete all option (indicator, object expert, etc.) relied to a sigle security and the prob disappeared, but if I apply the "default" smartchart, the prob is here again.
any help?"

I just reinstalled MS last night and after the computer restarted I
deleted the 'Samples' folder out of the MetaStock Data folder. Each
time I clicked on the MS menu folder icon the msg stated 'can't find
Samples folder' and I couldn't get to my charts. Actually I remember
that I copied the MS Data folder but didn't delete the original
residing at C:\MetaStock Data, so Samples loaded into that MS Data
folder and maybe that was why I got the error msg, it wouldn't have
happened if I'd replaced the folder.
Anyway, can't remember now if I sorted the problem by just closing and
then re-opening MS or if I re-booted, so try a re-boot if you haven't
already done so.
