You're correct that the original MACD is calculated with simple moving
averages. However the price oscillator can be run with any of the other
kinds of moving averages that are available. They each give different
signals.

It looks like you may be trying to code the "3-10 Oscillator" used by
Linda Raschke? Here's an easy way to do it:
1. Use the Price Oscillator indicator rather than the MACD. In the
input/set-up window, plug in your fast (3) and slow (10) moving
average periods. Set the Method as Simple (it is not calculated with
exponential MAs), and use points rather than percentage. Plot in a
separate window.
2. Use the Moving Average indicator to take a moving average of the
3-10 line you just plotted. Set Time Periods to 16, Verticle &
Horizontal Shifts to 0, Method: Simple, and Price Field: Indicator.
This will calculate and plot the 16-bar average of the 3-10 line.
