I start MS that way from time to time in order to purge the registry.
After you purge it you have to reset all of the defaults which isn't
too much trouble. I've purged the registry and have had the problem
since, so for me it's reoccuring for some reason.

I agree, part of the problem maybe in the registry because shutting
down MS and restarting purges part of the registry entries, but not
the defaults. Using the other method deletes the defaults also.

I'll see if I can tell which registry entries might be causing this
particular problem.
