Yes Super,
I did face the same problem. The
solution is not to shut down and restart MS.
The solution suggested to me, by
equis support, was that the registry was corrupt.
I quote the mail received by
me:
The Windows Registry settings for MetaStock may be damaged. Try
deleting the Register as follows:
Start Windows.
Hold down the
<CTRL>+<SHIFT> keys.
While holding
<CTRL>+<SHIFT>, launch MetaStock (Start | Programs | Equis
International | MetaStock or double click on desktop shortcut).
Continue
holding these keys down until a question appears, asking if you want to delete
your user settings.
Let go of the keys and answer
Yes.
After that another question comes up about a user name not found.
Type in your first and last names and click Ok.
The tutorial and Tip of
the day may start in MetaStock. Simply close the Tutorial and Tip. You
should return to MetaStock. Then try to use the program as normal to see
if it works. Most likely you will have to change the 500 to 1000 again to test
this.
And yes, it has worked, I have not
faced the problem since, and I do religiously check my scan
rejects everyday.

Subject: [EquisMetaStock Group] Explorer
Bug
I keep
forgetting to post a note about an explorer bug I notice a while back while
experimneting with some historical tests.
When you run an exploration,
if has a filter it rejects some of the stocks you run through it. That's
normal. There is also a normal group of reasons for rejection and the
filter is only one. Ocasionally you'll get a rejection for a reason
associated with MS's ability to get the data.
However, if you run
the same exploration multiple times over a range of dates, you may get a
lot of rejections for
Maximum number of securities alrealy locked.
Sometimes the rejection rate can be as high as 70%.
THIS IS NOT
THE ERROR WHICH IS FIXED BY INCREASING THE FILE LOCKS IN THE REGISTRY TO AN
AMOUNT above 250,000. That's a completely different issue.
Equis
knows about the problem and said that in the last version of MS they
noticed it during testing but it didn't happen too often so they didn't fix
it.
The only way to stop the error is to shutdown MS and start it
up again. That's a pain when you have to run a number of
historical explorations for system testing.
A lot of people have
the problem but they don't notice it because very few people open the
rejects tab, and very few people run multiple explorations across more than
the current date.
This is a major problem. All of you should make sure
that when you run an exploration you know why you're getting rejects.
If you see this problem, report it to Equis so they can finally
figure out it's not minor and they need to fix it.
Even when they
figure it out, given they're track record they won't bother to fix it
because it doesn't interfere with them selling new copies of MS to
unsuspecting people. That's sad, but it's the truth
Anyway watchout for
this error. It can change your results dramatically.
