As a former MS user who finally got sick of the approach of the company
to its customers, I want to say that it is a bit of a stretch to call
Jose out for starting a rumour about them. It's not as if they have a
clean record. You ask why they would consider data locking. Are you a
new user? You must be, because the same question could be asked about at
least 10 other major decisions they have made in the past, decisions
that don't have any logical basis from a customer retention standpoint.
I think it is a tad early to be impugning Jose's credibility. He
specifically stated that he hoped the rumour was false. Given his
involvement in the software, is it so hard to believe that he has some
inside information about upcoming releases? I am not associated with
Jose; I would have posted this no matter who you were responding to. The
idea that MS should be given the benefit of the doubt is questionable at
best.

The majority meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail.
