Here are a couple of other search
ideas:
Search for spikes x% (50?) above
the 25 day moving average of volume. It is the spikes that stand out
significantly from the overall background of normal noise that signal a day of
decision.
Another search strategy is to
draw a 2sd Bollinger Band over volume. About 5% of volume bars will exceed the
band.
Sometimes price consolidates within the range of
the price of the spike day before making its move. Other times the move begins
immediately.
I am sure you already know this, but... When the
anticipated reversal is down, an intraday break of the spike day high is an
alert. A close above the high is matter of concern, and two consecutive closes
above that level is cause to abort short positions.
