DP – you seem to be where I was about
12 months ago.
Here’s what I learned [IT WILL SAVE
YOU FROM PULLING YOUR HAIR OUT!!!]
I started off using Reuters EOD to update
all my local data [folders or symbols I created on my hard drive]. The
answer to your first question is to run the downloader to update to the most
current day.
I used to go into each individual error,
and decipher if it was a symbol change, something that was bought out and no
longer exists, etc. Most of the time the exchange added an “E”
or a “Q”, etc. Well, that took some time every
night/week/month, but I was confident I had the best data hands down!!!
NOW, all I do is………..[I
dropped Reuters] and am updating my local data through my eSignal subscription.
I update my symbol list once a month and spend some time on that one Saturday
or Sunday setting up folders to explorer on for the following month.
There still remains some errors etc when
doing this, but that updates symbol list normally filters out bad data.
Truthfully, all you need is a handful of stocks in your outputs for you to
trade/study/system test, etc. I’ve even heard of people who have
stuck to five stocks, or other instruments and have traded them religiously for
years.
