Harry, I just went in and checked my current file size. It is 343MB.
Probably have a handful of system test reports in there. The system test I
have been running recently are quite complicated. Each system test uses
about 6-7 indicators, each one called from an Indicator formula. I bet the
size is also effected by the number of bars in the test. My test has 1100
bars in it.

I have also noticed that most times it takes a long time to open the System
Tester for me, the first time I open after starting Metastock. Mine takes
longer than one minute. I can usually go get a cup of coffee and come back
in the time it takes to open it. Its a pain, but not as big as the discard
problem. Until you commented about it I never associated it with the
maxlocksper file issue. But certainly it was quick to open when I first
bought the upgrade so something has changed.

I don't know what to tell you except that I suspect that XP handles the
problem a little better than 98. By the way I'm also running Office 2000.
You might go check for an office update. I was there not too long ago and I
think I remember a patch that effected the Jet engine or whatever that I
believe is used with the MaxLocks stuff. Also I have my MaxLocks set at
500K I believe.

I would guess that most users don't run very sophisticated tests. Power
users will experience this problem more than casual users. Maybe the lack of
others complaining says something about how many power users there are, or
about how many power users have upgraded to 8.0. I know for a fact that
over the last 2-3 years a high percent of the old active power posters on
this board have left and gone to amibroker. Equis will have to address this
problem as well as the whole bunch of system tester issues I have complained
about or this is the last release I will buy. That would be a shame.

The only other thing you could try is the repair procedure given by
Metastock. Did they give you that? If not, let me know and I'll post it.
