Those errors are usually caused by either memory conflicts or by
rewrite and store errors. Sometimes they can corrupt your templates
and layouts because MS shuts down with files open. In additon to MS,
Windows itself has a hard time recovering from memory conflicts. It
will close apps if there's a problem. I guess the MSwin error
protects MS from crashes that would cause much worse problems.
Make sure you don't have video accleration turned on, don't change
things like file names inside of MS (use explorer), and only click in
one instruction to MS at a time and wait for it to process. When you
have a lot of charts open or complex indicators, MS has to create a
que. If you click tasks in ahead of its ability to keep up, the que
can cause errors. Clean out your temp files everyday. Make sure that
~msfl.star is no where on your computer, and restart MS sometimes by
holding down the ctrl and shift keys at the same time then click on
the MS icon to start MS and clear the registry. Clearing the registry
will reset the defaults. Just type you name in the code entry box and
keep going--no big deal. Beaware that if you combine price data and
indicators on a chart with data from esignal indexes, the performance
of MS will degrade due to mixing two types of data on one chart that
require updating in real time.
No matter what anyone tells you XP has a lot of problems and causes
plenty of crashes. I run Win 2000 because it's the most stable for
these kinds of programs. I won't upgrade it because many of the
upgrades insert new bugs that make previously stable programs go
nuts. Microsoft doesn't care. Just ask them. Their solution--get rid
of the crashing program. Call the vendor and tell them to fix it.
Your graphics card is the second most likely cause of your problems.
Graphics drivers are horrible and cause more crashes than anything
else. Make sure your drivers are the latest and greatest. Sometimes
changing video cards can help. I use Matrox running multiple monitors
and don't have many problems. I've thrown away a few cards because of
conflicts.
MS is not only processing graphics but it's doing floating point
calculations at the same time. You've got the graphics chips using
the i/o and the CPU trying to juggle i/o at the same time for math
functions and to coordinate the inflow of data from esignal.
Sometimes the OS breaks down in its ability to coordinate the
processes.
MS is a complex program that taxes the resouces of your computer.
It's one of the most complex programs I run and I run a lot of them.
I get at least one MSwin error a day. No big deal, given all that's
going on.
I've also noticed that bad data either from esignal or from gateway
conflicts can sometimes overwhelmed MS.
If MS were a DOS program, it would be 10 times faster and 10 times
more stable, and we would all hate it.
