Hello Kevin,
No, I don't think that you've misunderstood the problem and you are right
about the v8 way of running explorations being better provided you want
to use the same list of favourites on a regular basis. I also agree with
you about the high level of support provided by the Equis help
desk.
Speaking purely personally, the only reason that I upgraded to v8 was on
the promise of a better system tester as I always thought that the
H/L/O/C entry/exit options pre-v8 were totally inappropriate to real-life
trading. After several weeks of trying hard to fall in love with v8, I
have had to accept that, for me, the relationship has failed. In my
opinion, the new system tester is like an alien plug-in with a totally
different look and feel to the rest of the package. It is poorly
documented, cumbersome to use and doesn't work properly. I strongly
disliked the long-winded reports, which you can't modify, and seem to be
written for the realtime version of Metastock. Great, maybe, if you're
using the realtime version but not the ticket for EOD.
One of the facilities in v7.2 that I like is the ability to plot your
indicators on a chart and do one or several system tests on the fly
without having to create and save a new smartchart each time. This is no
longer possible in v8 which, for me, turned out to be very time consuming
overhead. It's all down to personal preference, of course. I have seen
many posts on this forum singing the praises of v8. Viva la
difference!

Kevin

Hello
Kevin & Kamal,
I
might be way off here but I have grown to like the v8.1 approach.
Initially I was surprised at having to set up a favorite s folder with
all my securities in it, to run explorations, but having done it once it
s now so easy to add securities for each new exploration. Simply click on
Favorites folder when asked to add securities, highlight the first
security, hold down the shift key and page down, and you then open all
the securities in your Favorites folder, very simply and quickly. The
exploration thereafter remembers the securities unless you overwrite by
removing them etc.
For my
money it sure beats going into each of 26 folders and adding each
security etc (as per v7.2) every time I run a different exploration.
Under v8.1 you only open one folder.
I hope
I have not misunderstood the problem. Perhaps its just personal
preferences. And perhaps a final unrelated comment, I have been very
agreeably surprised at the helpfulness and responsiveness of Equis
support. They have solved two problems for me that were driving me to
despair. And no I have no association with Equis and I paid the going
rate for v7.2 and v8.1

Kevin Howard

favourites folder
Hello Kamal,
In v7.2, you don't have to create a new favourites folder. You just add
each security folder to the exploration. It's very quick using keyboard
shortcuts. Unfortunately, you cannot just select the All Stocks folder
which contains your A-Z sub-folders in v7.2 either.

Kevin
