There may be other things to do but the first thing I'd do is go to the "Run" command of Windows and run CHKDSK with the /f (fix) parameter. That way, if a file is damaged, CHKDSK will fix it. CHKDSK runs on all versions of Windows and even DOS. You can also run the same command from the DOS prompt. If the file is actually damaged from a system point of view, that will repair it, but you will most likely lose some records.
