Hi, Jay
I think you must confuse the LinearRegressionTrendline from the 
InsertMenu and the LinearRegressionIndicator from the 
IndicatorQuicklist.
First plot a LinearRegressionTrendline on your chart-On Close by 
example- and you can see a true straight line
After you plot the LinearRegressionIndicator on the close with the 
same period.
As you can notice, the last point of your LRTrendline is on the LRI
