Hi Sean:
I use end-of-day data only and MetaStock end-of-day, while making end-of-day decisions. Both my data and software are relatively cheap.
You first say that you have dial-up because 24/7 is quite expensive, yet most of the software and data providers you list that you are considering are themselves are rather expensive. You say that you are inclined to go for eSignal which is in the neighborhood of $80 a month and is real time data. The software you list is also significantly more expensive (from what I can tell) than basic MetaStock EOD.
If you can't afford a 24/7 Internet connection, how can you afford intra-day data? In my town, Tacoma, I am in the process of transferring from dial-up to 24/7 cable. I'm currently paying $23 a month for AOL and can get cable for $28 a month from a local provider. Comcast is $40 a month and my understanding is that's the standard rate nationwide with some local providers like mine, running significantly less than that.
Then you say you are going to use intra-day data to make end-of-day decisions, with intra-day software. I guess I don't understand the package you are trying to arrive at.

I am looking for a Data service that would fulfill my following
requirements. I would really appreciate the suggestions and feedback
of the people using the data with following software.
I have a dial up connection and 24/7 connection is quite expensive
so I would like to download hourly and daily data at the end of the
day on about 200 symbols including Stocks + Futures + Indices ( All
North American )
I would like to update that data every night and save that data on
my hard drive so that I can use it with following software any time.
I am considering buying some of the following software.
(1) Meta Stock Pro
(2) Dynamic Trader by Robert Miner
(3) Advanced GET End of Day version
(4) Advanced GET Real Time Version
(5) Trade Station 2000i
(6) Gann Trader V. 3.0
>From what I heard all of the above software would accept data in
Meta Stock format except Trade Station.
I am inclined to go for eSignal but there is a major hurdle. From
what I understand, you can not save eSignal data on your hard drive
and they said they do not sell data. You have to log on to their
servers every time you want to plot a chart and once you go off line
that data is gone except probably you can save the chart you are
working on in that application.
Either I misunderstood their reply that they do not sell data and
you have to log on to their servers every time for every symbol you
want to plot which probably eliminates quite a large percentage of
people who can not afford 24/7 and Fast internet or cable
connection or eSignal might not be the kind of service I am looking
for.
They suggested DynaStore for Trade Station but what about other
software?
Why can't I store their historical data for my personal research
and
back testing when I am willing to pay for it? It really doesn't
make
sense because If my isp or eSignal servers are down then I am in
real trouble. Am I missing something here?
I would appreciate any suggestions and help from people using either
one or more of the above software and data service they use as well
as people using EOD eSignal as their source of data.
Thank you,
Regards
Sean
