I found the answers to both of my text problems in inner windows (as noted in message below)

Apparently "text" is considered a "line study". On the lower right of the screen Choose Security->Options. When you select the option to "use chart as template" you MUST also check the "keep line studies" option. When you do, the text shows on any chart you select with this template. If you don't, the text disappears!

I also stumbled on the solution to my second problem. When the text is created, the default apparently is "Anchor to date". For whatever reason, even if you open up the very same chart again, the text moves on the screen. So after I create text, I must right click on it edit Text Properties, and uncheck "Anchor to date", which forces the text to remain at the relative screen position.

If anyone knows how to change this text default, it would be appreciated. I can't find it.
