the Global Industry Classifiactaions or GICs developed by S&P and
Morgan Stanley. See here for a cross reference for the S&P1500 stocks:

Follow the instructions in the Downloader manual to create and
populate folders.
QuotesPlus and the Debry add-on also offer services to arrange stocks
into group folders. The Debry add on can be used to create group
averages.
