You should go to the Norton site and look around.

They have a number of good topics like Hoaxes, but 
more to the point they also offer a number of "fixes".

Apparently when some virus or other bad thing gets imbedded
anti virus programs may not kill them, so there are a number
of specific search and destroy routines that Norton will
let you download.  It is somewhat painstaking, but there 
will be times when that and only that does the trick.
