In
addition, you might want to consider to do some paper trading first or
simply designate a small test account to work with this
system.
There
are a lot of things one could learn about him/her self by being under the
pressure to execute and having entire portfolio on the
line...

  Andre:

Time to get your feet wet and use Metastock to
answer the question.  In System Tester there are a number of "canned"
systems, including one called Exponential Moving Average.  Use that for
starters, change the moving average period to opt1, the lookback period to
opt2, and then run a test with a range of vaues for each
  optimization.

Subject: Can it be this simple

Being a novice at technical analysis, I was
wondering if some could help me with the following proposal. If I was to
take my entire porfolio and trade either the QQQ or DIA using a simple 30
day moving average, would I be a success or a failure. Seems to me that it
    is a profitable system
