1. I don't think the VIX has a theoretical upper limit.
2. In 1987 it went to 172.79.
3. The VIX history back to 1986 can be downloaded
in Excel format at
http://www.cboe.com/MktData/vix.asp
I don't think the Reuters Datalink history
goes that far back.
4. There are experts of various opinions.

the VIX indicator chart from Reuters Datalink
or is it possible to create it with a Metastock formula ?
P.s. 2 : This VIX indicator is now CRYING : BUY BUY BUY
and there are some experts expecting a hughe
run up of the DOW (7800 (?) 8400 (?)
