Bill,
This is the system from NewEgg.com that I built for
my wife. The only hardware missing are the monitor and speakers. It
was designed to run Windows XP although we are using 98 now. Everything
plugged together without conflict and I didn't have to get anything else.
Even the drivers were current.

I will next build a similar system for myself with
a MATROX G550 video card for dual monitors. Future plans call for another
hard drive on my wife's system using RAID mirroring to provide continuous backup
for her business programs. The motherboard was chosen for its RAID
capability and other nice features. I figure this gives us enough
redundant parts to keep one system running in an emergency and provides plenty
of room for expansion. The system now has six empty PCI slots and six
unused USB ports. The power supply may have to be upgraded if many
peripherals are added.
The Nero CD burning software that came with the
CDRW works great. I can use the CDRW as a large and fast floppy, but can't
read it on another CD without the software. The keyboard and mouse are low
end and I would recommend an optical Microsoft mouse. The on-board LAN
works fine on our home network and cable modem. The on-board sound is
plenty for my tin ears and I really enjoy listening to CD's on it.
One item I'm going to get next is the "IOSS Bios
Savior Backup System" for about $30 which takes the risk out of
flashing the BIOS.
