Re: which Windows?

I've just started using XP on one pc and the biggest problem I've
encountered is with trying to use third party software that is not "XP
compliant". The idea of a secure OS that could handle multiple users
was appealing to me initially. However, the reality of achieving this
is another year or two away after all your favorite third party
(non-Microsoft) favorites have XP compatible software releases out.

The problem is that for some programs it is impossible to allow a
"user" who is not an "administrator" to be able to run and use software
that is not "XP compatible". If you are the only one using the
computer, then you won't have this problem. But for those who would be
sharing a pc (and certain non XP compliant programs) with other users
(staff or family) some third party programs will not work with multiple
users under XP (home or pro), you must be an administrator to run the
program, which defeats the idea of a secure OS totally.

If you read the newsgroups about this, there are posts where people
just give up and make everyone an administrator...
