I have been listening to this debate here and other places. Yes, W2K, is a
better program in most respects. One problem with W2K is that there is no
way to enable it to use all available RAM before using the swapfile. In 98,
one can add a software switch in system.ini. Since I have 512 MB of RAM,
this is very important. The bottleneck to speed in current systems is the
hard drive. The biggest speed improvement that I have made was going to 512
MB. I was going to go to 1 GB but after reading the MS KB and talking to
Micron, 98 cannot handle over 512 MB due to limitations in the system area.
W2K can use more memory but it is wasted because of their swapfile algorithm
(see Microsoft KB).

Until this is fixed and 99% of programs are compatible, I will stay with 98.

The only concern when considering a up grade to W2K is hardware. You
should check all hardware web sites to determine if they have W2K
drivers.
