On the Equis List-technicaly, the mailers subject is not OOT.
1. OE is been used daily by the fast majority of List members to download
their daily exchange boursedata used by the main Equis programs
2. List members also use the program to down- and upload emails to the List
PC-technicaly it is your silly comments in your mail that are OOT......far TOO OOT.
4. By factory default MS's OE is marketed as an Email program, and where a DVD
player will read CDRom disks, it is not designed to also read ZIP disks, therefore
neither will the mail program OE act differently on particular news protocols, that
are mentioned in #5.
5. OE is also made compatible to work with the News group protocols, eg users
can read and down- and upload messages to and from these groups all done
without having to leave the program or even when logged in as the same user,
but, a great but, optionaly : only when the group subscribtions are enabled and
with taking in account here each news protocol's properties and (dis)abilities
6. By factory default MS's OE is also marketed as stand alone software
7. OE is also made compatible to work as cl-sw, eg users can install the sw as such,
but, a great but, optionaly :only when PC is installed as a workstation in a network
and the client is created on the network server
8. In the Accounts section, the POP and News accounts can be used as well as that
many other Types of mail and news protocols can be used
9. Folders will get loaded when selected, eg on startup OE will always load the default
folder : the system's Inbox or else the user's preferenced folder, and later when
selected by user clicking a foldername, then that folder will be loaded{=made viewable}
10. Folders can be scanned, but this will only happen when the Find {=search} function
is being used
11. Whilst running OE, folders will be maintained automatically, eg be compressed
and corrected. The Tools|Maintenance section has some more user definable
maintenance options available to user, eg for example #12
12. To delete, messages can be deleted manualy or automaticaly, eg by user making
a single or multiple mail-selections using the from Windows known selection techniques
or on program shutdown, when this option is checked in the Tools|Maintenance section
and so on
and so on.
It sounds to me your looking for very specific news group software and not a common
mail and news program that everyone uses.
There are many such specific sw packages around. They might even offer all of the
functionalities that OE does too. Subscribe to a newsgroup and start from there instead
of starting from here.
Doubt that it will be a FREE ride TOO, tho.

Ton Maas

Lionel,
A last comment on this OOT subject.
You are correct about e-mail folders... but OE is client software to read
both e-mails and Usenet articles. The input folder organization looks
something like :
-- Input folders
-- E-mail
-- POP Server #1 input folder
-- ...
-- ...
-- POP Server #n input folder
-- Usenet
-- News Server #1 input folder
-- Newsgroup #1.1 (eg be.providers)
-- ...
-- ...
-- Newsgroup #1.k (eg misc.invest.technical)
-- ...
-- ...
-- News Server #n input folder
You can perform the manipulations describeb below on any E-mail input folder
:delete individual, copy, move, etc. You CANNOT on newsgroup input folders :
only copy is available.
- How to read an e-mail input folder ? - Read, delete, read, copy, move,
read, delete.... break... read, delete, read, copy, etc. ... until empty
folder
- How to read a newsgroup input folder ? - Read, copy, read, copy, mark
where you are .... break... read, copy, read, copy... when all articles
scanned, right click on folder name, properties, local file, suppress all
headers & bodies
So, what I'm saying is that the commands to process an input folder are
totally different between e-mail and Usenet. There is absolutely no reason
for such an incoherent user interface. None.
Even worse. Usenet articles are usually shown in threads by client software.
Threads can be extended (+) or collapsed (-). OE does that fine in newsgroup
input folders... but the thread extend/collapse feature is not available for
the custom folders where newsgroup threads have eventually been archived.
Summary
- Incoherent command set between e-mail and Usenet articles
- Incoherent thread views between Usenet articles in input folders and the
same in custom (archive) folders.
Alain.
