Not meaning to be a nudge or twit, but I have often mentioned that it
is common accepted practice and courtesy to send ALL e-mail in a
newsgroup in standard ASCII format.
I realize that some have "discounted" connection, and limitless access
to the internet.... SO DO I - at home, but I still follow common sense
and Usenet protocol and use ASCII.
Why!
I just came back from a trip in Europe (10 days), and as usual I have
to pay 0.15 American cents per minutes (more on cell phone).
Due to file attachments (which is not acceptable, but necessary to
convey TA information, so it's a nuisance, but welcomed), SPAM, and
e-mail which is 2-3 times the normal size, my average download time
was 15-18 minutes per day (120-180 messages). Could only connect at
26k in Wales - go figure, got 49k in Manchester, UK.
So, the bottom line.... HTML and SPAM costs the user REAL money by
doubling download time.
So, please be considerate of others that may be on the road, in hotel
rooms, or on cellular phones spending all that TA $, £, ¥....
Remember, pennies make the larger sums, why give it to BT or other
communication conglomerates <g>...
