I feel that the $9 CD option is excellent idea but ...
... not all users are so inexperienced with a computer and software that
they can't download an update properly.
Consider the option that many software vendors do and allow both ...
experienced users can download, novices order the CD. Fair for both.
As a software person myself, I fail to understand the difference between a
CD and a download. In takes only a few minutes of coding (1/2 hour at most)
to determine the current version that a customer has and to prevent and/or
allow an upgrade to execute based on the outcome.
Come on Equis, you obviously have a very competent team of software
engineers supporting and developing the product. Don't try and pull the wool
over the eyes of the novice users in the List.
The Internet, and the ability to distribute software updates electronically,
is one of the greatest cost saving tools available to a software company ...
embrace it, don't shun it. And certainly don't move the cost of updates onto
your customers because you can't get it right yourselves.
