Ray:

As I stated in one of my first posts, I am not the best person to ask for
support of MetaStock. I am strictly a programmer. I'm afraid that after
your unpleasant description of our support department, you might come up
with something more painful to describe my ability to troubleshoot a
customers problems. Regardless of what you say, the best way to get your
problems solved is to call our support department.

I am not here to defend them, but I will say that you would be surprised how
many times a change in a video or printer driver can solve problems. I deal
with this stuff every day (and some nights), and countless times a quirky
video driver or printer driver has been the cause of a program crash. When
our support department asks you to update drivers, they are merely making a
first attempt to solve the problem. Changing the drivers may not solve the
problem in your particular case, but it has solved problems for others. If
it doesn't work for you, then support can guide you through the next step.

Supporting our product is a PROCESS and we don't always have immediate
answers. Many times support can be a troubleshooting process that requires
several steps of gathering information, trying a fix and if that doesn't
work, move on to another attempt to fix the problem. Please be patient with
our support department. They want to help you solve the problems.
Sometimes it can take some time to troubleshoot the issues. Not only is
MetaStock a complex program, but the complexities of the Windows environment
itself are huge.

I am glad that 7.02 is an improvement. One crash is still one too many
though. If you can remember details of what you were doing when the crash
occurred, it would help us to get rid of that one too.

Ken,

Some problems from 7.01 still exist in 7.02 (at least for me). For ex:

1. When I try to do an Ole paste link to a new layout, the data pastes just
fine the first time. But when I save it and then reopen the layout - the
Ole linked data slips to the back of the data file, and no longer links to
the proper calendar date. I reported this (and sent files) months ago and
it was confirmed by tech support.
Why hasn't the Ole function been fixed?

2. If I make a new layout of one security (Lets use .NDX).
Then add a second security with a LONGER history to that layout (Use .SPX).
Then add a Zig Zag to that second security (.SPX).
The mouse will NOT be able to find that second securities ZigZag (.SPX).
Can't make adjustments to it etc..

3. I had the same problem others have had with formula conversion. The
formula 'Sine Wave Cycles' comes up with an error message (more than one
name in the indicator builder contains this text) during the 7.02
conversion process. 7.01 and 7.02 won't let me delete it or change it (no
spaces to remove though).
I don't even use it, but I can't get rid of it. Any ideas?

4. When I open some of my old layouts they come up with some of the windows
bare of vertical lines, text, etc. If I minimize your app and then enlarge
it the stuff comes back. What's wrong?

Also, I get the message "The folder containing this SmartChart's data no
longer exists or is not accessible" a lot. When I am opening a layout (not
a SmartChart). Why? And then I get "Insufficient data sources to fulfill
price data request" Here I hit Cancel then the layout opens. Whats up?

Also those same layouts have a weird bug that isn't in new layouts I create
with 7.02. When I put a horizontal line on a chart you know looking for
breakouts, I can't move that line vertically only horizontally. I have to
double click it and edit it to move it??

Please don't tell me to recreate those layouts Ken (like tech support did).
They are loaded with notes and lines and math notes, etc. going back for
years. Ken I'd have to quit trading for at least a month. That's an entire
month I'll be without a paycheck. Surely you folks are not that cruel? We
trust you with our livelihoods Ken.

Good news! 7.02 Has only crashed once so far last week!!

The P variable appears to be working.

Thank you for those fixes.

BTW Ken, telling people to call tech support is like condemning them to an
ice water enema...

There are so many bugs, and the app is already so overly complex that tech
support lies, dodges, sends us on wild goose chases (you need new video
drivers is a favorite)(I've replaced mine carefully many times) and finally
tells us that they are too busy to work through documenting any more bugs!
This has actually happened to me and others. And to make it all an even
greater insult - your bugs, on our telephone nickle. An awful experience.
Unspeakable.

Ken, when can we expect to see some further repairs to EOD 7.0?? Please
don't hold these bugs hostage to new feature introductions. (There is too
much complexity built into this app already.) I don't know of anyone with
any sense (a real trader) who cares more about new features than we do
about getting what we had working again.

Thank you
Ray Hodge
