Here is what I learned.

Dial Data said the @ symbol is used by their program to recognize the "beginning" of the
symbol; that it was used a few years ago for the solution of some sort of problem; that
now, when the downloader uploads the symbol list, it is automatically added by the
downloader  program.

It was a fluke that I got inter day data from its use.

I was under the impression that I had to manually go into each security and delete the
last data, one at a time.

Metastock customer service showed me this:

>From downloader: Tools/Delete/Data/universal select all in a
directory/Delete/Date(before or after a specific date)/ok.  All unwanted data deleted.
Than update with current data.

Thanks for your initial response.  Probably would have not pursued it as vigorously.
