By default installing the Microsoft Internet Explorer will automatically have it
to be be the default registered "Internet and related" browser {program}.

This also happens when installing other programs {f.e. Office} or with many
other 3td party programs. For example the DOC or XLS registered extensions
will also "automaticaly" be coupled to the last installed document or spreadsheet
editors  -handling-  program.

The URL being the reference extension {among other Internet related, like FTP}
for the "Internet and related" being no eception here, will then automatically be
coupled to the last installed browser program.

After IE is installed, then run the install {uninstall or setup} for your browser program.
Its install wizard should give you the option to make it your default browser.
At this stage, you might also be able to set this option within the newly installed
browser program.

Should you later decide to have IE for your default Internet browser again, then
there is no need to run the IE setup. Just right click the Internet Explorer icon on
the Desktop, click Properties{=Internet Options}, click the Programs tab and
click the Restore default websettings-button.

Advanced programming techniques...........................

And for getting the latest IE version see the Windows Update site
{my previous mail on this subject}.
