I too have been having printing problems for some time using MetaStock v.
6.52. Some or all of the inner windows are blank when I attempt to print.
Usually when I print the same windows again, they will be ok. I've
contacted Equis twice about this problem. Their first response, several
months ago, was that my price data were corrupted and that I needed to
delete and reload them. Doing so didn't solve the problem.<br>
<br>
About a month ago I contacted them again and got the response shown
below. It says that printing problems aren't their problem. As best I
understand their response, they are now saying that the problem is either
due to Windows 98 or to my printer. I doubt if it is the printer because
I've had the same problem with two different printers - one a Canon and
the other an HP. <br>
<br>
I tried some of their suggestions below concerning print spooling. This
made the printing process too slow to be practical so I didn't try it
enough times to learn if failure would occur or not. <br>
<br>
It seems to me that the problem is in MetaStock v. 6.52, although it
could be within Windows 98. However, I never have had a printing problem
with any other program other than MS v. 6.52. <br>
<br>
I don't know what to do from here. If anyone gets any good ideas, pleas
post them.<br>
<br>
Thanks!<br>

MetaStock does not have any control over the printing. We just send
a<br>
command to print and Windows takes over from there. Windows controls
the<br>
printing through the printer driver. Printing in Windows is accomplished
by<br>
the Video Driver telling the Printer Driver what it sees and the
Printer<br>
driver trying to print it on the page.<br>
<br>
If your charts print except sometime it is possible the print spool
setting<br>
in Windows are not fully compatible.<br>
<br>
Try to disable the print spooling feature and see if this helps. You
do<br>
this as follows:<br>
<br>
Click Start|Settings|Printers.<br>
<br>
Right click the icon for your printer and select Properties from the
menu<br>
that appears.<br>
<br>
Click the Details tab.<br>
<br>
Click the Spool Settings button.<br>
<br>
Look at the Spool Data Format column and make a note if so you will know
if<br>
it says EMF or RAW.<br>
<br>
Select Print directly to printer.<br>
<br>
Start MetaStock and try to print your charts. If this works it means
you<br>
have spooling trouble.<br>
<br>
Run Scandisk on your drive to repair the spooling file in Windows.<br>
<br>
Also go back printer properties on the Details tab select Spool print
job<br>
for faster printer and change the data format to RAW if it was set to
EMF.<br>
Select OK and print again in MetaStock. If this works use RAW instead
of<br>
EMF and it will mean you can spool which makes your print jobs
faster.<br>
<br>
If disabling spooling worked but RAW did not it means you cannot
spool,<br>
which will make your print jobs slower but will allow you to print
your<br>
charts.<br>
<br>
You should also contact the printer manufacture and get different
versions<br>
of their printer driver. It is possible that an earlier version of
their<br>
printer driver will work for you.<br>
<br>
Also ask the printer manufacturer if your printer can use printer
drivers<br>
from other models of the printer. <br>
<br>
If you try different printer drivers you may discover a version of
the<br>
driver that is compatible allowing you to print all of your charts on
your<br>
printer.<br>

I rarely ever print out charts. When I first installed MS v6.5 some
time ago, I printed 1 chart. After reading your email, I retested
MS v6.52 print capability and it worked correctly. Both outside and
chart borders printed correctly, the header and footer printed correctly,
and it even printed in Landscape form (I did not print in Portrait form
because the chart would be too small). Although, I really don't know
why anyone would want to print out charts. It takes forever and if
you need to look at a large number, you would waste tremendous amounts
of paper.
<p>I think you're having problems because you haven't set your printer
correctly or are using poor drivers. Change your chart to a white
background. In MS, under Print>Print Setup>Paper try using Landscape
form. Under Print>Print Setup>Layout choose "Print Where Displayed."
In MS, make sure your Margins are only 0.5". For a VERY long time,
I was unable to print out footers in Netscape. Then I discovered
the "Unprintable area" option under Control Panel>Printers>My Printer>Properties
and now it works correctly.
<p>You need to tell us exactly what your printer is giving you so we can
figure out what's wrong.
<p>Good Luck,
<br>Daniel.

<br>Bill,
<p>Attached is a copy of the letter that I personally wrote to you
<br>informing MS that their 6.52 EOD program had a serious printing problem.
<p>The majority of the MS users that have encountered this problem have
<br>since responded to your Dec 1st 1999 memo.
<p>As of Feb the 10th 2000, I have not had the courtesy of receiving any
<br>written response from MS acknowledging the serious 6.52 EOD printing
<br>problem and how MS proposed to resolve it.
<p>In addition, MS is forecasting to release 7.0 EOD update while existing
<br>6.52 users stew in the 6.52 printing mess.
<p>When does MS begin to function as a responsible software supplier and
<br>respond to this serious problem. The nonresolution of this problem
has
<br>demonstrated MS's lack of consumer follow up..
<br>Why not acknowledge the problem?
<p>If 7.0 is the solution to the problem; then I strongly recommend that
<br>all 6.52 paid upgrade users be given a rebate to be applied to 7.0.
I
<br>also suggest that all 6.52 users be given a rebate for the tremendous
<br>amount of aggravation and inconvenience everyone encountered when they
<br>upgraded to 6.52.
<p>When will MS becomes a responsible software supplier and resolve these
<br>glaring software flaws?
<p>Surveys with no follow up is a joke and I seriously question MS
<br>corporate integrity.
<p>Give me a straight answer and tell me when will MS resolve the 6.52
<br>software printing problems?

<br>Bill,
<p>I am deeply disturbed by the lack of adequate response I have seen from
<br>Equis during the past 2 weeks concerning the obvious printing problems
<br>that MS 6.52 demonstrates.
<p>I also have had the same 6.52 printing problems and I would like to
<br>express to the group how a professional, reputable and reliable company
<br>tries to resolve an obvious problem.
<p>Since I purchased the 6.52 upgrade in September, I have gone back to
the
<p>Xerox company concerning the Xerox 8C printer. Xerox quickly responded
<br>and tried to determine whether their printer was at fault. Xerox
even
<br>replaced my 8C printer with the Xerox DucoPrint 11C. Xerox has
gone the
<p>extra mile and has responded in a very reputable manner and never during
<p>our search for a resolution did Xerox stonewall the problem.
<p>Living in Silicon Valley allows me to call many software companies in
<br>the valley to explain to them what MS 6.52 software problems I am
<br>confronting. Bill, the problem is in MS 6.52, and MS has not
responded
<br>to this glaring problem in a reputable and honest fashion. The
<br>difference in response between Xerox and MS has been amazing. As a
<br>business owner, I am bewildered over what the group writes about Reuters
<p>your parent company- is their philosophy and lack of reliability in
<br>supplying consistant data influencing Equis in their business practices?
<p>How can a reputable and reliable company not respond or acknowledge
such
<p>an obvious and glaring problem in their software?
The credibility of
<br>Equis is at stake. Please, no more 6.52 patch fiascos.
<p>I want to know when will Equis resolve the 6.52 printing problem?
<p>Sincerely,
<br>Lino Alessi</blockquote>

Well the answer from Equis was not self destruct but "Not usuable". I do not
know exactly what they were saying about not useable?
I was as much surprise as anybody can be.
