Herman,
Can't help you about on-demand technology, but the Explorer works with
local data only, and while this includes what is in the cache I don't
imagine there is much history with it. See the v.7.0 Manual p.41,
"Important Facts about DataOnDemand".
Using local data you can have a folder for each sector and feed the
appropriate symbols into each folder, then use v.7.0's List function to
combine the folders for downloading and for explorations. See the v.7.0
MetaStock and DownLoader Help files "Maintaining Lists of Securities".
10,000 stocks? That'll keep you busy for a while. You could start with
the S&P500, which is broken into sectors, and work up from there.
Download market and sector indices, then do comparative strength charts
to see which sectors are of interest. Create a template for it.
v.7.0's Security function makes this much easier than creating composite
securities in the Downloader.
Other ways to use the group/sector approach (which as a "new MS 7.0
user" you probably don't want to know about) are the Investor's
Reference Library (IRL) which uses QP2 data compatible with MStk, and
AIQ's TradingExpert Pro which is designed around the group/sector
approach.
