<DIV><FONT size=2>Subject: converting daily data to weekly and
monthly</FONT></DIV></DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV><FONT size=2>&gt; I don't know how the Metastock approach works
exactly, maybe Ton can add<BR>&gt; this to his wonderful collector's articles
about Metastock-Excel links.<BR>&gt; <BR>&gt; I think that you have to create a
new security, i.e., Wahoo_weekly because<BR>&gt; once you start a security with
daily data in Downloader you can't switch it.<BR>&gt; <BR>&gt; This is a quote
from the Downloader Help files:<BR>&gt; <BR>&gt; "... Periodicity.&nbsp; Choose
the desired periodicity for the security.&nbsp; Choose<BR>&gt; Intraday if you
want to maintain intraday price data (e.g., tick, 5-minute,<BR>&gt; hourly,
etc.).&nbsp; Choose Daily if you want to maintain price data for each
day<BR>&gt; that the security trades.&nbsp; Choose Weekly if you want to
maintain price data<BR>&gt; for the security on a weekly basis (Friday to
Friday).&nbsp; Choose Monthly if<BR>&gt; you want to maintain price data for the
security on a monthly basis<BR>&gt; (month-end to month-end).<BR>&gt; <BR>&gt;
Note that once the periodicity is chosen for the security, it cannot be<BR>&gt;
changed.&nbsp; You can only choose the periodicity for a security when it
is<BR>&gt; first added. ..."<BR>&gt; <BR>&gt; So, I guess that you take your
daily data in XL ... run it into MS ...<BR>&gt; create a new security in monthly
format ... then run it back into XL. I<BR>&gt; don't know what the limit is ...
but 30 year continuous contracts are<BR>&gt; probably going to be well over MS's
limits &lt;G&gt;<BR>&gt; <BR>&gt; Best regards<BR>&gt; <BR>&gt; Walter<BR>&gt;

Haven't tried this in the XLS format and the MSK's Help|Index|Quatro 1-2-3:file layout: page
doesn't mention this option to be present, but in the ASCII format you can add the <NAME>
column to the ASCII header. Convert wil than automayticaly give your secs their corresponding names.

This option is available since the DL 6.5, and since that that version did not get a new manual,
eg the old 6.0 manual had to be used, than this wasn't explained and exampled in your manual.
See the build-in 6.52 Downloader Help:

-click Help|Index
-type ASCII:file layout:
-Help will auto select the issue
-click Display
-Help will display the "Conversion Options Dialog" page
-scroll down to bottom of page

This is personal. If you have a fast machine you can opt for it. If not, and if your maintained
(unspiked) historical data is also precious to you, than don't.
Any errors in newly downloaded files, eg from bad connections or halve downloaded files
and from other datavendor 'bugs' will automatically be reflected in your newly created securities.
