<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Ton,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Sorry, it took a while to respond. I was
working the Ag Exposition in Spokane, WA. I hung a sign in the

being misdirected, I lifted all their wallets. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>The fibonacci moving averages are posted for pure
amusement (you know, just like the monkey). I have a real simple mind
and I'm easily fooled. I'm totally amused by dropping a "fib" moving

Ton, I like these averages. I think they're more fun than 10, 20, 50,
100 or whatever makes you giggle. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>I make my living (the wallet stealing part)
by employing a consistent, simple, mechanical system to all the markets that I
trade. This "system" features momentum oscillators. And, Oh God,</FONT><FONT
face=Arial size=2> it has one or two or three (dare I say) "fibonacci numbers"
imbedded in the damn formula. "I mean the shame of it all!" Fib
numbers violating the integrity of a sound momentum oscillator.
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Ton, you must have missed my stirring
historical review of Fibonacci's trip to Egypt, his lovers, and other
antidotes. It was all related to me in a bar in Detroit (circa 1981) by
one of his descended. I forget if it was Leno, Dino, or Nino Fibonacci
(three brothers who you want on your team when the chairs start
flying). If anyone still has that post, please share it with Ton.
</FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Meanwhile, I'll be mechanically trading for a
friends, relatives, and a couple of guys whose names end with a vowel.
And Ton, shame on you if you use 13 in any of your formulas. Didn't you
send me a Linear Regression Oscillator that was peppered with the number
13. Honestly, Ton, you should be ashamed of your behavior!</FONT></DIV>

A study of Chuck LeBeau's book essentially shows that random entries are
just
about as good as feverishly trying to improve upon this entry. According
to Chuck LeBeau's research, EXITs are supreme and this is where you should
spend most of your time in writing/developing/testing trading systems. You
could have bought QCOM last year at almost any point in time and still made
a bunch of money. This is why I mentioned comparative relative strength as
a selection tool. This has been consistently the best stock selection tool
I have seen. Entries are not all that important; preservation of capital
is crucial. Exits are all about preservation of capital; both in terms of
initial loss as well as preserving capital made in a trade. You don't
believe
this; try using the system tester to always exit a trade after a certain
timeframe of say 21 days. Now test your entries on a range of securities
to see how much improvement you can consistently make in your entry
techniques.
Probably not much when viewed statistically based upon LeBeau's work. Now
work on
exits using all your different entry techniques with a final exit of say 21
days
to get out of the trade. You can radically change your trade performance by
taking losses quickly and varying your exit strategy to accomodate market
conditions and exiting before 21 days
if needed. Once you have established your exit criteria; position sizing
(how much of
your trading capital) to bet on a single trade becomes paramount. Van
Tharp's book,
"Trade your way to financial riches" discusses this very important
consideration.
My random entry remark was not meant to be flippant; just wanted to suggest
that focusing
on entry techniques is probably not a good investment of your time. Use any
of the
standard techniques; (20 day new high -- buy), moving average crossover, 3
consecutive
up closes, volume spike, stock fails to fall on bad news, etc. It is much
more important
to know your sell point and do profit protection than worry all that much
about your
entry technique. My experience suggests that selection using comparative
relative
strength will usually do much more for your returns than developing complex
entry
techniques involving cycles, multiple indicators in oversold zones in the
same time
window, and all the other convoluted complex indicators that I have
developed in the
past. A good starting point is to use the default ranking in Metastock
explorer and
considering buying the top 5 positions that show up in the ranking. It
sounds too
simple but combined with good exit techniques can be profitable.

Ron Stockstill,
"Stock entry: try a random entry. Most systems are not much better than
that."
Shame on you. Isn't that among the first things you should arrive at?
Maybe at least a moving average turn up? Or an MACD cross up through zero?
If this isn't the case, why waste money on any of these programs --- just
use a dart board, or a flip of a coin.
My hunch is that there is a finite and small number of 'ideal circumstances'
in which to enter long, and these may change slightly over time. It is the
task of the TA to discover these locations, and to do so quite consistently.
And, incidentally, many different indicators seem to point to essentially
the same 'sweet spots' --- to use a metaphor, it would be like many
different photographers shooting the same celebrity positioned somewhere
among them; basically one could subsequently recognize the person, it's just
that the different photos would show various perspectives and angles. The
essence of the celebrity, however, remains.
