"MetaStock for Windows
Duplicate securities in folder
Merge duplicate securities?
[YES] [NO]"

This error is generaly generated if you have 2 securities with the same
Symbols but with 2 different Names in the same one(1) folder
(and if Traverse Folders option is ON applies also for the sub folders
beneath the parent folder, where <parent folder> is the "Folder:" name
typed in the Convert|Destination Folder box).
They (tickers and names) are maintained in both the Master and Emaster files.

Layouts do not consist of any quote data and as such have got nothing
to do with the error generating 'double' tickers presence.

Only a guess (as I am not familiar with QP or further inner maintance
of the Master Emaster files), in your instance, your QP2 program 'writes'
to 2 the same tickers with different names (or 2the same names with
different tickers). On opening the MSK or DL programs, this mismatch
is noticed, and the dialog to 'merge' the 2 files is presented.
It will not harm you to YES the option, but one of the ticker's (or perhaps
name's in your instance) files will be irrevokably deleted.
