Isn't JPEG a better file format than GIF in terms of size? because it uses
lossy compression.

Convert the JPG file into a GIF file using any image conversion or editing
tool. The file will shrink to around 20K.
I use PaintShop Pro (http://www.jasc.com) and/or Image Alchemy
(http://www.handmade.com) for this purpose.

Hope this helps,

Saving a chart in HTML -format results in a file of about 300kB in
jpeg-format. Is there a way to reduce the length of the file in a way it
gets a more acceptable size
to mail this to other persons?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
