Mike,
It's a sort of too late wisdom, but anyway.
In the current (Nov.) issue of PC World there is a column "GOT A PROBLEM? Software downloads may be
hazardous to your systems health. Here is how to protect your PC", p. 47.
My own way to handle this problem is a software download abstinence (within reasonable limits, of
course) plus a strict use of a good uninstaller software ignoring any others (of a particular
program you are downloading or Windows own). It's cheaper down the road to not save on buying a
brand name uninstaller. I am quite happy with Uninstaller (McAfee's now?), although now it might be
not the best.
Hope you've solved the problem.
Cheers, Vitaly
