One of the drawbacks of using Metastock is the inflexibility to add your own
personal drop down lists or other user forms to your charts. An example of a
"drop down list" is the "Indicator Quicklist", in the center of your MS
toolbar and the "Style" drop down list under View --> Toolbars --> Style.
Notice that one is text and the "styles" are objects.
Using Excel you have the ability to add combo boxes, drop down lists, and
other user forms at will on each price chart AND on each indicator window.
Steve's recent December Wheat and Stochastic Oscillator chart is easily
duplicated in Excel using embedded charts on a chart sheet NOT on a work
sheet. His second oscillator chart or "inner window" as Metastock calls it
can be expanded to 2, 4 or 6 indicator charts placed above the core price
chart.
This type of "static" template can be duplicated using as many template
chart sheets as you want for the same tradeable price chart. You can easily
have several templates open at once on the screen for the same tradable.
Each template when not in use is readily available to you as a tab at the
bottom of your screen.
The use of drop down lists tailors your charting system to your trading
needs by creating a "dynamic" template. Rather than having an Indicator
Quicklist of 125 canned plus ?? number of custom indicators. You can have
your favourite indicators available on each price chart AND on each
indicator chart.
You can have different indicator lists for different types of tradeables.
The possiblities are endless. Some users use "radio buttons" for 2 to 4
indicators rather than drop down lists. Other user forms such as sliders,
spinners, etc. are very handy when charting.
So whether you choose a static format or dynamic format or some combination,
all of these charts, templates and user forms can be created and maintained
automatically using VBA. Chart objects, properties and methods in VBA are
confusing at first, but well worth the effort to learn.
Best regards
