The only close product I can think about is the free i-Soft's StockWiz for
Dos [RIP]. But it was definitely significantly inferior to TAS : archaic
programming language (SAL), incomplete TA library, poor documentation, very
limited reporting, etc.
Also, TAS was famous for having cross-checked their TA library with
Metastock results, StockWiz one was not reliable.
I cannot talk about the more recent Windows 95 version, other than i-Soft
"forgot" to keep some features like : support of custom (abroad) markets
and ability to schedule scripts (available in TAS & Stockwiz Dos).
Wrt VB(A) interface, the environment is of a generic purpose programming
language, with almost unlimited functionality available. TAS, SAL and Omega
TradeStation Easy Language are dedicated languages.
What is "ease" ? - As soon as the application becomes a little complex, or
need a little more flexibility, it seems to me that VB(A) is the easy way
to go. Including that VB(A) does offer from far better development tools
(like a script symbolic debugger).
Now, many (most?) traders will only use very simple programs and need
nothing more than the limited user interface or data organization offered
by specialized languages. They might find a symbolic debugger is yet
another complication introduced to track errors already due to a way too
universal language.
