Ton Maas wrote a very helpful description of his wishlist
just a few weeks ago.

Included here for your reference.

List of items to be considered when upgrading:

1.
-Win2000 for OS (it will put Win95/98 where 3.11 is now)
2. -Most modern
Motherboard available, and on it, its build-on own most modern
hardware:
        a. PipeBurst's(channel)
capacity size (currently think largest is
512kB),

(eg the one(1) "tunnel" (tube/pipe/channel) where all the I/O data traffic,
between

BIOS -> Processor -> RAM -> disk and <-<-<-(vise versa),
has to go through)
        b. 500+Mhz or
higher Processor, preferably Intel iii or iv
3. -SCSI as standard for Hard
Disk, preferably also multi disks, and assigning
Windows
        to have its large own
stack on it too
4. -Fastest Video-card that is
available
        (with on it the largest
amount of Memory capacity chip(s))
5. -Largest RAM that motherboard can hold
(eg that can be fitted in the slots on
motherboard)
        and of the most
recent standard (S-DRAM I believe) that is available

Preference sequence is so choosen, as your OS (preferably Win2000) will
determine what
type of hardware is (and will be) standard required.
Then
adding the above mentioned hardware to the PC (system), will truely speed up and
improve
the overall (and programs singly specific) performances giantly for
the better.

Therefore, best is to wait untill Win2000 comes out (Oct99 is
the target release date), and
in the mean time, to also read up on it, also
to read up on the above mentioned hardware
in detail and as to why the above
choosen hardware particularly will also speed/improve
things for you "now
much for the better".
Waiting for Win2000 release, will also give you
(plenty of) time to safe for this (JUMBO)
PC-set, as it will not be cheap,
but then again, now investing in an upgrade will be a waste
of good time and
good money (eg Intel is already about to beta-release a 750Mhz processor,
and
as in their laboratories also a 1000Mhz for capacity is the current developed
focused-on
processor (but unfortunately not as yet to be released soon).
Incredible speeds that already
have been reached. And:
100+ GB Hard Disks
are also already being tested in labs.
20+Mb Video-cards seems to be peanuts
for the manufacturers.

The above has got me to not open my wallet at the
moment, eg until desperatly required:
   1. on a breakdown of my
current PC or
   2. when ready sorting out the above
hardware(through endless info-ing)

AND/OR
   3. when my current system stops functioning "anymore" (eg
due to the in future to be
expected
        newer larger program's
sizes or program's other <burden on> the system requirements).
Until
than, I would (advise to) wait (and I, for one, will continue on to focus on the
market(s), and
on the site will get myself informed on the above "much
better+reasonably reachable" hardware).

Regards,
Ton Maas
<A

PC which is an NEC PII 233mhz. I am
> not an expert when t comes to
hardware and therefore seek views as to an
> appropriate upgrade.
>
> Its main use would be for running metastock pro, excel, word,
netscape
> etc and it would be part of a LAN network. I don't think
I would be
> using it for any heavy duty graphics.
>
>
Browsing the shelves of Comp-USA it looks like my choices are between an
>
Intel Celeron, PII or PIII. Can anyone give some suggestions and
in
> particular describe the differences between the 3 processors?
Whatever
> the choice, I would have a minimum of 64meg or RAM and would
prefer to
> use win95.
>
> Also as a bechmark, which Celeron
chip would be the equivalent to my
> current PII 233mhz?
>
>
Email direct if you prefer. Thanks in advance.
>
> Essan

Guy:
My thanks to you and your brother for clarifying this chapter in Jurik's
book.
Some chapters in the book are worth reading. This one is not. A book for
traders should not require a ph.d. (piled higher and deeper) in statistics
and data mining.

When I recently looked at a book on data mining, I felt like somone who can
barely read Dick and Jane, and the teacher hands me a book on Sibling
Relationships in a Middle Class American Family, and asks for a book report
on it.

Warm regards

Lionel
