<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2>All,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2> One of my friends just
emailed me with a comment that he didn't understand my picks this week.
DELL and CSCO looked more like short candidates to him than long candidates and
HD was in a trading range. Looking at the charts closely and thinking
about it, I could definitely see his point. My answer was based on my
investment philosophy and I thought I would share it with all of you.
Answer follows:</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2> Thanks for the
comments. It always helps when I have to stop and think<BR>about what I'm
doing. The reason I'm looking at long positions rather than<BR>short
positions here is that I learned a long time ago that I could get<BR>severely
burned if I traded against the intermediate term trend. Therefore,<BR>I
play the odds by only trading in the direction of the intermediate term<BR>trend
(dashed red lines). Of course, the intermediate term trend might
not<BR>hold, then you would be absolutely right.<BR>
Since the intermediate term trend for both DELL and CISCO are up,
my<BR>methodology calls for long positions only at this time. The question
is<BR>when should I enter since both DELL and CSCO are currently in
STDTCs. For<BR>DELL, I'm bottom fishing and betting that Wednesday was the
bottom.<BR>However, there is a chance I could be wrong <G>. For
CSCO, I'll only enter<BR>if the STDTC is broken which would be a reversal
indication. In both cases,<BR>I recognize the chance of being wrong and
protect myself with stops. Also,<BR>I won't hesitate to reverse to a short
position if the intermediate term<BR>trend is
broken.<BR> HD is in a sideways trading range or
Horizontal Channel, but won't be<BR>if it breaks out to the upside. That's
the whole point of playing
the<BR>breakout.<BR><BR>JimG<BR></FONT></DIV></BODY></HTML>

<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>
<DIV>After applying the latest patches, suggestions were made by Equis Support
for those (incl. myself) who are</DIV>
<DIV>having problems, to upgrade their video drivers from their hardware
manufacturers. This most certainly is true,</DIV>
<DIV>however it did not fix any of my problems. The latest 652+652a Patches of
Jan26 and Feb08 1999 however</DIV>
<DIV>did the trick on my computer.</DIV>
<DIV>Some odd video performance remained however, and besides from the above
652Patch informing my</DIV>
<DIV>video-card manufacturer for a newer driver version and also from using
the latest succesfull Metastock program</DIV>
<DIV>and the latest IE50 and OE50 programs, has had me realised that there is
more to it, to get my screen to operate</DIV>
<DIV>and function as it should be. Problem here is that sometimes when
scrolling the pages up and down in windows,</DIV>
<DIV>the screen jumps to refresh the page again(not smoothly), disturbing any
normal viewing for only a 1 or 2 seconds. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Among the manufacturers, Microsoft should also be included, eg being the
Operating System's manufacturer</DIV>
<DIV>and thus inter-acting/communicating with the hardware manufacturer's
equipment(s) and software packages.</DIV>
<DIV>So below is the information for a free upgrade to version 6.1 of the MS
DirectX application, which prior versions</DIV>
<DIV>in the past were standard shipped along with the video-card
manufacturer's software. To my knowledge most</DIV>
<DIV>people have DirectX v3.1 (or higher) installed on their computers, and
currently DirectX v7.0 is in its final (?)</DIV>
<DIV>beta-testing phase, and the finalising commercial release version 7.0
will be shipped out with the Windows2000</DIV>
<DIV>OS-program(NT5.1+), due to be released around October 1999. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Only upgrading the hardware manufacturers video drivers alone(+their
other related software), most likely,</DIV>
<DIV>will not be enough if the older, if previously installed DirectX software
is not upgraded as well.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Also Microsoft has made available for free a small Diagnostic Tool
(scanner+viewer) which reports can</DIV>
<DIV>be saved as plain ASCII txt-files, and files are then there for user to
check on versions, unregistered or missing</DIV>
<DIV>or misplaced components, improper installations and are also there for
information to tech-support contacts.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>From running this tool here, have noticed that some components were not
installed or missing and that the</DIV>
<DIV>here installed version is 4.04.00.0068 English Final Retail Date:
09/26/96, meaning that my version</DIV>
<DIV>is 2 versions down on the most recent version(and 3 versions on the
beta).</DIV>
<DIV>On the DirectX-site the faq's pages and a troubleshooters tool are also
available</DIV>

<H2>SUMMARY</H2>
<P>This article provides detailed instructions about how to install
the most recent version of DirectX.
<P>Microsoft DirectX is an extension of the Microsoft Windows
operating system designed to provide Windows-based games and
multimedia-rich programs with high-performance, real-time access to
available hardware on the latest computer systems. This results in
faster, better performing Windows-based games and multimedia-rich
programs.
<P>DirectX 6.1 works best with <STRONG>updated</STRONG>
<STRONG>audio and display</STRONG> <STRONG>drivers</STRONG> that
include <STRONG>hardware acceleration features</STRONG>. <FONT
color=#ff0000><FONT color=#000000>DirectX 6.1 <STRONG>includes
updated drivers</STRONG> for the most popular</FONT> <STRONG><FONT
color=#000000>sound and video adapters</FONT></STRONG></FONT>.
<P>For <STRONG>many older</STRONG> sound and video adapters, these
are the most <STRONG>recent drivers available</STRONG>. If you are
using recently manufactured sound and video adapters, contact your
hardware manufacturer to inquire about the availability of more
recent DirectX-compatible drivers for your sound and video adapters.
<P>You can download DirectX 6.1 for Windows 95 and Windows 98 free
of charge from the Microsoft Web site. To obtain DirectX 6.1 for
Windows 95 and Windows 98, download the <STRONG>Dx61eng.exe</STRONG>

<P>NOTE: DirectX 6.1 <STRONG>does not work</STRONG> with Microsoft
Windows <STRONG>NT 4.0</STRONG>. To use DirectX with Windows NT 4.0,
you must install Windows NT Service Pack 4, which includes DirectX
3.0.

Hi All (and Jim G especially),
I'm new on this list but I just have to jump in. I trade options on
high volume stocks like DELL, CSCO, SUNW, INTC, MSFT, etc. My best
month was in November of 1998 when I earned 2600% on my account. I
missed topping that in one day on AOL last friday when the option I was
watching rose 2500% in two hours.
Not boasting. Just want to make a point. I use five simple indicators:
Volume, candlesticks, chart patterns and 50 and 200 DMA. That's it.
Intraday they are about 90 - 95% reliable, if you know how to read them.
Daily maybe a bit less than that. I have tested literally hundreds of
computer generated indicators in the past, none of which were very
reliable.
Two books I recommend: Candlestick Charting Explained by Greg Morris
and the ultimate bible of chart patterns "Technical Analysis of Stock
Trends" by Edwards and Magee (7th Edition). Read and memorize what is
in those two books and use the MS Pro and EOD programs and I promise
you, you will earn phenomenal returns and consistently buy bottoms and
sell tops -- Yes, not only is it possible but you can do it with a very
high degree of regularity IF you know what to look for.
Technical Analysis isn't rocket science. Being good at it takes lots of
experience and lots of hard work. It takes diligent study and a strong
commitment to learn how to recognize profitable candlestick and chart
patterns. Then you must learn how to trade those patterns effectively.
An absolutely fabulous website to start your process of discovery of
these time tested and proven strategies is www.securitytrader.com.
Check it out. Nowhere will you find better information than this.
Their head trader, Ryan Thomas, is an absolute genius of a trader and is
committed to teaching others what really works. He is straight forward,
uses no gimmicks and has an intraday e-mail service of comments and
chart patterns unfolding in real time that is invaluable. Trust me, I
know. He has taught me more in four months than I could have learned in
20 years listening to someone else or testing the experts trading
systems.
Continued success to all of you. Incidently, if you want to know when
and where to enter DELL and CSCO, go to the website listed above and
read the comments on the charts in the Trading Room. They'll tell you
exactly everything you need to know to make profitabl trades on both
those stocks...
