Eh, no. The reason is your old MS65 programs' vital files were not readable by
both the Patches. Nothing wrong on your end of applying the Patches, but more
on the end that your old files in time have got written to, actualy got so much
written to enough to unable both the Patches NOT to be able to read them anymore
as being any of the standard installed MetaStockv65 programs' vital files.

"Apeared" is not the same as "were confirmed" to run to completion, this as
you did not recieve the "Congratulations"-message(s) at the then, succesfull,
closing end of the patching session(s). These have to be permantly displayed
on screen too, indicating a succesfully completed "patching the files session"
has finished and will only(!) disappear when clicking "OK" or switching off the
computer.
A re-boot is then required to finish off the Patch session regularly, eg to finish of
the left over writing to disk tasks and writing to files properly and error free completely
accepted by the OS (Win95/98/NT).
The DL build date should be correct, mine is 02/05/99, and only this 3-day difference
should not be of great importance here, but do note that from the "Help|About" this
only accounts for the "DLWin.exe" program file itselve, and most posssibly NOT for
any of the other "patched" or "halve patched" or "non-patched" old MSv6.5-files.

Either the "proper" file version is missing(the old MSv6.5 one might be still there tho) or
the file cannot be "accessed" by the new MSv652a program.
You will not ever find this file on the EQUIS website, as the file is part of the program's
"vital" files-set and as on the site, only the programs -in time released- "supplements"
can be found and downloaded, and are also only put there as being "optionial" files to
the MetaStock programs.

>Maybe this is one of the reasons that I have had problems with MS using OLE.

Since I have managed to get the OLE part working with(in) the Excel-program,
think you should forward to Equis Support or the MS-List any of your problems.
Personaly, have not been overwhelmed with enthousiasm on the usage-side of it,
as it will require for you to understand, learn, deal and also to mentaly accept
the "handles" that come with it. Calculation wise it is a good solution, but also
requires for you to understand the MSExcel programs own formula-language
and the OLE's general limitations as well.

Now to get rid of the famous Patch problems:

1.-Back up your current MSv6.5 (mutulated) installation, if you haven't already done so
     before applying the Patch(es)
2.-Go virtualy -in the head, or from old notes- back in time(history) on how you have
had the MSv6.5-program set and everywhere configured(setup)
3.-Un-install the old MSv6.5 (mutulated) program, eg go to "Start|Control Panel|
Settings|Software", select the correct MetaStock v6.5 line and click "Add/Remove"
4.-Select the old "C:\Equis" folder and remove(Delete) it -with its contents- from the
computer or replace all to the Recycled Bin
5.-Re-boot the computer
6.-Install the MSv6.5 program clean again from the MSv6.5 CdRom
7.-Apply the Patch "Ms6.5 to Ms6.52" and make sure that you receive the above
     mentioned "Congratulations"-message
8.-Click OK to the message
9.-Re-boot the computer
10.-Apply the Patch "Ms6.52 to Ms6.52a" and make sure that you receive the above
       mentioned "Congratulations"-message again
11.-Re-boot the computer
12.-Start both MS and the DL programs to check on the "build" dates
13.-When these dates are ok then configure the programs to the way as how you were
previously using and working with them
14.-Re-import any of your (now) missing Custom Formulas, Scans,Tests and Experts

Should you have been unable to apply any of the 2x required Patches to upgrade to
v6.52a succesfully, eg no perminant Congratulations-message(s) were shown, then
re-run or re-download the Patch(es) again from the Equis web-site, and do the above
steps all over again.

As a compromise for any of the "little" over-time spend on these Patches, and from
this re-installing, have found too, that a lot of the old "not ever used any more or not
ever needed by the programs" files where also clean-up as well and that that is giving,
in the Win95/98/NT-Explorer, the current folders a lot "smaller-in-size-and-quantity"
usage-view. Just Right-click on the "C:\Equis"-folder and click the folders Properties
to have Win95/98/NT to "SUM-up" calculate the folders and subfolders contents
"wheight in Mb".
