I used to use Reuters EOD with Downloader to do the job and I quit for all
the reasons already hashed out here (mainly "ID=800" crashes). BUT, I
don't lay that at the foot of Downloader, which, IMHO, isn't a bad piece of
software. That was the Reuters "extensions" if you will -- the overly
cumbersome protocol they feel they need.

I was all ready to start using QPII because Richard Estes had me all wound
up about it (I haven't heard from him lately, r u lurking Richard?). But
about then QuoteMonster posts started appearing and FREE IS GOOD!

What's the point? Well, the Downloader works very nicely with the ASCII
files Quotemonster creates, even to the point of overwriting old quotes
with new ones to make intra-day updating possible (another QuoteMonster
feature). So that's why I value Downloader and think it may be getting a
bad rap here. I agree with the majority here that feel Reuters service is
the pits, but I don't think that has anything to do with the Downloader.
