Thanks for sending the info to the List, but have just tried to convert a file
with the by you assumed new Y2K MetaStock file arrangements
(example of this test conversion file's contents is printed below)
and as you can see have applied the 1 as first digit in a 7-digits sequence.
However, this 7-digits usage will not get passed the Convert Filter as the
following is returned as a single Error message when in the Convert Report
clicking on the RED " X "-marked Filter's error :
Line 1 - Error #2106 : Missing/invalid DATE. Record will not be stored.
Line 2 - Error #2106 : Missing/invalid DATE. Record will not be stored.
Line 3 - Error #2106 : Missing/invalid DATE. Record will not be stored.
etc. etc.
Confused? Please UPDATE your information.
The new Downloader652 too, like all of its pre-decessors/prior versions,
does NOT AT ALL accept more then 6 digits positionings for the Date colum.

Ton Maas

Subject: Y2000 Data and Other Packages
Hi All,
Yes the new MetaStock data Format has just used the CYYMMDD eg 1000103 format that we thought.
The below message is from Bryce Gilmore: he sent it to me over Xmas. So the WaveTrader/CycleTrader is all setup for Year
2000. Bryce is working through the New Manual for the WT/CT 2000 version so it is just a few weeks away. All of the
Date and Solar Degree routines in the ephemeris are working fine.
I ran the new MetaStock data for the months around the Year 2000 on my SuperCharts and also works fine except that it
calls 2000 as "100". So SuperCharts Version 4 is Year 2000 in a fashion. You can get used to it.
The drawbacks of this style of data is that you can't use pre 1900 data in a big file. But this is no problem for the
new WaveTrader as it allows you to create Swing Files with the CCCCYYMMDD format and will automatically update them

David,
It is clear to me that Metastock cannot afford to change their data
format in any significant way except to place a 1 in front of the YYMMDD
current format as CSI is proposing for the following reasons. They may
change their access routines to camouflage that files are in
subdirectories but that is about all. All Y2K software needs to identify
where dates are concerned is that they are either 1900 or 2000 century.
This is easy because if the date begins with a 1 and is 7 digits long it
is year 2000 on. This process will last for the next 200 years without
fail.
MetaStock might be playing a game of cat and mouse but be rest assured
that all the other data vendors I know are preparing to distribute data
with the 1 before the YYMMDD in the date field and it will be completely
compatible with the current method of downloading data. If someone
decides to reinvent at this time in history everyone will give them the
flick.
1. The computer code algorithm will not except anymore than 7 digits.
If it did we would be able to go to dates like CCYYMMDD but that is
currently impossible unless one wanted to reconvert every existing data
base. (Highly unlikely)
2. The WaveTrader/CycleTrader has been re-programmed to read and
input dates in this new format. If Metastock change from this protocol
we will revert to only CSI data format once again. I don't think that
will happen and prefer the Metastock file system.
3. Don't let anyone get worried the only easy way for all data
vendors is to put the 1 in front of the new dates after year 2000.
4. The only aspect of change as I see it is that the computer
programs are upgraded to deal with these changes.
