Lionel

I have to try to remember what I did last summer when my old system died and
I had to move over to my new P400.

As I recall, the first thing I did was to zip everything and move it to the
D: on the original machine (had 2 hard drives installed). That provided me
with an additional backup as well as the one I back up via the Net.

Next, I move everything on drive C: to the new computer via Laplink. I then
installed the D: drive (removed it from the old PC and installed it on the
new one). As I recall, everything went fairly well except when I decided to
move stuff around (from one drive to another) <G>. I wasn't trying to
change OpSys though. If you're moving from Win95 to Win98, I don't think
this will work.

Remember, the key is keeping everything on the same drive it was on in your
old machine. If you start to move stuff around, do it later using one of
the various software packages designed specifically for that.

I bought Partition Magic and that didn't work for what I was trying to do,
since I was moving from a 2Gb hard drive to an 8.4Gb hard drive. Partition
Magic only would copy the 2Gb drive to a 2Gb drive and I lost most of my new
drive. Worked with their tech support but couldn't get around this
limitation in PM. If however you are copying a 2Gb drive to a 2Gb drive,
then PM would work OK, IMHO.

Regards

Guy
