Fibonacci is usually translated as discussing the rate of increase in rabbit
population, starting with 2 rabbits (male and female) and the rabbits have
to be one month old to breed. the ratio of population increase rapidly
approaches the Fibonacci ratio.
At the time that Fibonacci did his work, I dont think that there was much
knowledge about Egyptian science and mathematics since it was all heathen
and Egypt was at that time part of the Saracen Empire. It was also about
that time that Christians were forbidden from studying in the Arab
universities in the middle east. Hence any Christian quoting or discussing
Egyptian science would probably wind up being burned at the stake. Even
though the inquisition hadnt as yet been created, the church was using the
same methods to control heresy and independent thinking.
