Forrest,
I asked the experts when I bought my first PC, they are consistent but I
disagree about their advice being right for everybody. For example the
integrated video section is a big thing to the experts. If you must have the
latest release of 3dfx, then you will need hardware designed for constant
modification. On the other hand if video games are not a priority then paying
for that ability to upgrade and not using it is useless.
Worse it's expensive, with the amount I saved 2 years ago by getting an
integrated motherboard I can today buy a whole new system. A state of the art
system is a quantum leap, upgrading incrementally just moves the bottleneck
around.
Two years ago I added 16MB, last month for the same price I got another 64MB.
RAM is the biggest bang for the buck, but it will be easy and cost effective
to add later.
Head over to:
http://xlink.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/xlink/xlink/search.html
and search for celeron. That will lead to some articles comparing the Celeron
with Pentiums, K6…, which will link to comparisons of systems.
You've picked a good time to be in the market, the next couple months will see
some nice prices.
