Hello Forrest,
>I am going to upgrade my myputer ,
>Which one should I choose , my computer is almost
>for Metastock and surf the net only .
>Does it need the power of P II floating point ?
Finally.... a subject that I know a little about.
I use only a AMDK6 233 with 64 meg ram. I have built a few
PII, both 300 and 350mz. They are indeed fast.
Many get the idea that the CPU makes a computer. Network
experts have told me that the CPU is 5th down the line as to the component
that determines overall thruput.
Be sure that you get a high performance video board. I sold one
machine lately
that had TWO each, 8 meg video boards. I think the video board, monitor,
and ram
are more important that the CPU. Of course if you have more ram, high
performance video, fast drives, and a faster CPU, then you have it all.
The machine will amaze you.
I have sold machines with 512 meg ram, 12 hard drives, AMI mega-raid
contollers
ect. Everything is relative to the task at hand.
Purchase a very good monitor. I use a iiyama .25 VisionMaster PRO. This
monitor
has sever me well, and the one like it I purchased 6 years ago. I have sold
about
200 of them and had only 2 fail. ONE of these was likely damaged in moving
about
500 miles. It worked perfect at the first homesite, but failed upon
arrival when the
person moved.
Eveyone know, I suppose that Win_98 supports two video board and two monitors.
Imagine what all you can do with that setup.
Back to the real world...... I have a 200 mz Cyrix MMX computer in a mini
tower with
a handle on top. I carry it on trips, to my campsite, and on service calls.
I don't plan to upgrade it anytime soon. The 200MMX is a decent computer.
