It is not my OPINION that the Dow Theory gave a new bear market sell
signal last week. It is a FACT, according to the clear and strict
definitions published by Charles Dow and William Hamilton early in this
century.
The Dow Theory has an impressive record but not a perfect record. It is,
by definition, always somewhat late, because it is a trend-following
theory. Of the 23 sell signals from 1899 to 1981, 20 were correct.
