Updating MetaStock Files for Free

Hello:

With all this discussion of problems with downloading data from Reuters, I
thought I would tell everyone how to download data and update MetaStock
files very easily and for free. The data is very accurate as the original
source is S&P Comstock.

The data comes from the Dreyfus website and you download the data for 5000+
stocks in one file that takes about 2 minutes. The website for this is:

http://www.tradepbs.com/qsys/web/headers/downmenu

You then need to purchase a cheap shareware program that can easily update
your MetaStock files using the text file. This is a program called TextToMS
written by Paul Gerhart. This website is at:

http://www.voicenet.com/~pgerhart/_shware.html

This is all very simple. The biggest disadvantages is that you will have to
download the text data file daily. So if you go on vacation, you need
someone to do this for you. You don't need to update your MS files daily,
but you must download the data. The second problem is there is no automatic
splits or symbol corrections. For a site that lists all the splits and
symbol corrections go to:

I hope this is a help to people. You can save big money this way ($25/month
X 12 months = $300/year).
