Richard,
I am not quite sure what you are trying to say here. If we disagree that
is ok. But I have found that the easiest thing for some, (not
necessarily you), is to state the objection and give nothing in terms of
their observation. I have not read Ayn Rand, however the name seems
vaguely familiar.
If you want to elaborate feel free, if not that's ok too. Other wise you
really haven't said anything to me, as far as I am concerned.
About a year ago I had a discussion, I believe with John Monasco, and we
both agreed / observed that large countries are involved in empire
building when they establish the rules for trade, exchange rates,
interest rates, etc. Although this goes hand in hand with what I said
about capitalism. My remarks are more towards the actions of wealthy
individuals and how they do business. In the history of economics
(northern Europe) there is a great deal of documentation by the church
about money lenders, bankers, who would give large parts of their
estates to the church to hopefully help pay for their sins (as the sins
were related to their business practices). The intent was to try to get
to heaven. The lenders new very well that the terms of many loans were
usurious and placed many of their clients into hardship. So this is a
historical observation. You can also look to the share croppers in the
south after the Civil War for similar usurious behavior. Looking at
Soros as an example. Does his behavior fall with in the same historical
context?
